Blue Knights to ride for March of Dimes -
Greenwood Index Journal - Bikers
and car enthusiasts will ride together to raise funds in an
attempt to help babies to be born healthy.
The local S.C. VII chapter of the Blue Knights Motorcycle
Club will host the Bikers for Babies Poker Run on
Saturday.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Lander University, with
all rides out no later than 1 p.m.
Individual riders, motorcycle clubs and car clubs will hit
the road to help support March of Dimes research, programs
to help mothers have full-term pregnancies and babies so
they can begin healthy lives.
This is the first year the Blue Knights will host the Bikers
for Babies event. Funds raised by Bikers for Babies will
support the local March of Dimes’ chapter-wide initiatives.
In 2009, the South Carolina March of Dimes invested $1.5
million in program services, including research grants and
local community services. Through these grants, the March of
Dimes is seeking ways to prevent birth defects and infant
death, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth
rate, increase access to prenatal care and teach men and
women about having healthy babies.
The ride will begin at Lander and proceed to Mig’s of Saluda
for the first stop. It will then continue to Horne’s Store
in Chappells. After a brief respite, the ride will continue
to The Dock at Lake Greenwood.
From there, the ride will go to Godfrey’s Market in Hodges,
then make its final run to Mig’s Pizza Castle in Greenwood.
Best Hand Prize will be a Phoenix Grill, donated by Piedmont
Propane. Riders will also be eligible for more than 40 door
prizes. Food will be available, including barbecue, wings,
pizza and beverages.
T-shirts commemorating the Bikers for Babies campaign will
be on sale with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes.

Benefit ride planned for police memorial statue -
Times Daily - There will be a
benefit motorcycle ride
Saturday
beginning at McFarland Park with proceeds going toward the
Florence Police memorial for fallen officers.
Florence Police Lt. Ken Lester said the 68-mile course will
loop through scenic back roads of Lauderdale County and
return to McFarland Park.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at shelter 1, with the ride
leaving at 10 a.m. with police escort. The cost is $20 per
motorcycle.
"All motorcycles are welcome and especially any groups that
ride together," Lester said. "There are many groups that do
these kind of events on a regular basis and we hope to
attract many of them."
After the ride, there will be a hamburger/hotdog lunch on
the grounds at McFarland for $5. In addition, there will be
ride patches and T-shirts for sale. There will be a drawing
at 2 p.m. The winner of the drawing will take half of the
proceeds from the ticket sales, with the other half going
toward monument costs.
The monument, at a cost of about $60,000, is scheduled for
completion next week and will be at one of two locations:
Deibert Park or the former National Guard Armory at
Tennessee Street and Florence Boulevard.
Lester said the idea for the monument came from a suggestion
by Florence Police Chief Rick Singleton two years ago after
officers visited the Washington, D.C., memorial for fallen
officers. The name of Florence Officer David Young was added
to the memorial.
On April 24, there will be a horseback benefit trail ride
beginning at 8 a.m. at the Robert Coats farm on Lauderdale
298, north of Florence.
Donations for the memorial will be accepted at that event.

Rebels riding for a cause -
myFOXlubbock.com - A local
group of motorcyclists gets in gear as April marks
National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. Fox
34's Lindsey Ashcraft catches up with these advocates
who are riding high on the hog.
They're rebels with a blue ribbon cause.
"We're out here to make awareness for the prevention of
child abuse. So it's a great thing to be out here with
all these people and get to dressed up in our leathers,
hang out and enjoy a good time on the bike," said biker
and organizer Rich Rendon.
As the nation observes child abuse prevention month, a
group of local bikers are revving up awareness with a
rally, to remember the nearly 300 innocent lives that
were lost in Texas last year.
"Child abuse is not a local, not a state, not a national
thing, it's a worldwide problem and you have to start
somewhere, so the best place to start is locally," said
biker Dennis Satterwhite.
Rally organizer Ami Hill-Rendon says this 4th Annual
Memory Ride leads these advocates on wheels to a
candlelight vigil in honor of the deceased.
"So many of the cars will pull over because truly it's a
funeral procession. We are going to that memorial
service for all of those little kiddos that died so
young and innocently," said Hill-Rendon.
She says this compassionate act reveals a softer side of
these bikers.
"We always think that bikers are kind of hardcore and
rough and tough, and it's amazing to go over to the
candlelight vigil and look around. I bet 90-percent of
the bikers there will have a tear in their eye as we
remember the 280 children that died that didn't have
to."
According to Hill-Rendon, the group will distribute
30,000 blue ribbons throughout the month. They will also
be auctioning off a new Harley Davidson to raise money
for the Family Guidance and Outreach Center.
The Harley will be auctioned off at the Blue Ribbon
Rally Car and Bike show in the Depot District
April 24th.
Tickets are $30 a piece or 4 for $100.

Event for Vietnam Veterans expanding -
Fox11online.com -
GREEN BAY - Organizers say an event to honor Vietnam
War Veterans at Lambeau Field is growing even bigger
than expected. The belated welcome home event will
take place
May 20 - 23.
There are thousands of surviving Vietnam era war
veterans in Wisconsin. But many have had little or
no involvement with veterans groups since they left
the service.
"When it was over for me, it was
just kind of over," said Dave Denil, a former US
Army pilot during the Vietnam War.
Denil said
more and more Vietnam War veterans are now getting
involved in because of an event called LZ Lambeau.
LZ stands for "landing zone" -- a place of safety
for the troops.
"It is a tremendous opportunity
to thank the people who had a little bit more
negative experience than I did," said Denil.
Denil came back in 1970, with no real welcome home
from the public. Other servicemen and women
experienced worse. That's why many think its
important now to show respect for the veterans.
There will be events throughout the community during
that weekend in May, but the Welcome Home Event will
culminate with veterans and their families filling
Lambeau Field to honor those who died in the war.
It is also aimed at giving veterans the recognition
they may not have received more than 35 years ago.
"The growth and the interest has really been
amazing," said Brad Toll, the director of the
Greater Green Bay Area Visitors and Conventions
Bureau.
Toll, who is helping organize the event,
said as many as 100,000 people are expected to
attend.
"It is hard to judge from how far people
will come, from what distance, but we've gotten
interest from all over the country," said Toll.
With the growing interest, new events continue to be
added.
Veterans are now organizing a motorcycle
ride that starts in La Crosse and ends in Green Bay.
The Moving Wall memorial will be at Lambeau.
Organizers are also working with museums to put
together local exhibits. And ... Vietnam era
aircraft will be on display at Austin Straubel
Airport.
Denil says veterans continue to come up
with new ideas.
"Why don't we really jump into
this and make this event work," said Denil.
Even
if it has been years in the making.

The 2010 Tennessee Rally is bringing back some of the most popular events

a few.

A busy year ahead for bikers - Myrtle
Beach Sun News - With a new year upon us I thought it would be
appropriate to consider what lies ahead. Below is a compilation of some upcoming
local, regional and national motorcycle events for you to look forward to.
April 23-25, Maggie
Valley, N.C. - Thunder in the Smokies
Brian Jackson, the host of Corbin's Ride On, calls it "A world class event." You
can ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, to Cherokee, N.C. then on to Asheville, N.C.
and back to the rally in Maggie Valley. Every road is a scenic highway. Maggie
Valley is a biker-friendly town and a great place for bikers to gather for a
rally in the valley surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Be sure to look
into the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum and the Tail of the Dragon if you
go. See www.handlebarcorral.com .
May 7-16, Myrtle Beach -
Spring Rally
No one really knows what to call it since the city of Myrtle Beach has put out
the unwelcome mat to bikers, but the rally lives on in the surrounding areas.
Expect a scaled-down version of rallies past in North Myrtle Beach and Murrells
Inlet especially.
May 30, Washington, D.C. -
Rolling Thunder XXIII
Huge, national protest ride to raise awareness of POW/MIA issues. I have ridden
this one a couple of times and if you can do it without getting a patriotic knot
in your throat you need to pick another country. Expect streets lined with
flag-waving supporters and honorable veterans in ill-fitting uniforms standing
at attention. (See
www.rollingthunder1.org .
June 12-20, Laconia, N.H.
- 87th Annual Laconia Motorcycle Week
This is our nation's oldest rally. It is also one of "the big three" with
attendance in the hundreds of thousands. My wife Sissy and I rode with my
parents, my brother, and some friends to this rally several years ago and had a
great time. If the weather cooperates (it can be rainy) there is some beautiful
riding in the area and there is plenty to do. See
www.laconiamcweek.com .
Aug. 9-15, Sturgis, S.D. -
70th Annual Black Hills Motorcycle Rally
Often referred to as the biker's Mecca, Sturgis is home to the last of the "big
three" rallies. I have ridden to the Black Hills twice. The town of Sturgis
itself is about the size of Aynor so we actually stayed in neighboring Rapid
City and Spearfish. If you like history, the Wild West, and great riding you
will love South Dakota. In addition to all the regular rally fare you can
experience riding the Badlands, to Wild Bill Hickok's Deadwood, cruising through
Spearfish Canyon or Needles Highway's scenic roads, past real buffalo at Custer
State Park, and marveling at the majestic Devils Tower, Crazy Horse, and Mount
Rushmore monuments. See
www.allblackhills.com .
Sept. 29-Oct. 3, Horry
County - The Pilgrimage Fall Rally
Again, the city of Myrtle Beach doesn't want you, but the surrounding areas do.
Much smaller than the Spring Rally, the Fall Rally has always been a favorite
due to milder, drier weather, less congestion and better lodging rates than the
rally in May.
Here's to another year of safe and adventurous riding. Happy New Year everyone!

Combat Vet Riders plan first Ritzville Rendevouz in June -
Ritzville Adams County Journal - The Combat Vet
Riders organization from Spokane was impressed two years ago when Ritzville
turned out in force to support the organization as it escorted the traveling war
memorial as it headed to Moses Lake.
Ritzville’s hospitality has been parlayed into a new opportunity to stimulate
the community’s economy. The Combat Vet Riders plan to hold the first Ritzville
Rendevouz on June 25-27.
The event will be set up throughout the city, with two primary locations: The
Wheat Land Communities Fairgrounds and Downtown Ritzville along Main Avenue. A
satellite event is also in the works for the city’s airport, Pru Field.
The Combat Vet Riders have been working with Mayor Linda Kadlec and Ritzville
Area Chamber of Commerce Administrator Melanie Strecker for several weeks. The
group sent representatives to visit with community leaders in mid-January as
they developed their event plan.
Combat Vet Riders was formed in November of 2008 with a single mission: “We are
veterans serving veterans,” according to the organization’s Web site.
To ensure that the community is well informed of the event they are planning,
the Combat Vet Riders will conduct a pair of informational meetings in February.
The first meeting is set for Wednesday, Feb. 10, for local business owners and
store merchants. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Ritzville City Hall and will
serve as an opportunity for businesses to learn what to expect and how they can
participate and benefit from the event’s attendees.
A second meeting, a community town hall, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at
the American Legion Hall. That meeting will also begin at 7 p.m.
As part of the event, the Combat Vet Riders hope to attract participation from
local non-profit organizations that would like to serve as food vendors as a way
to generate income for the local group.
The organizers’ attendance goal for the first year is 1,500, although they hope
the annual attendance will grow significantly in the coming years.
The preliminary plans include a three-block layout on Main Avenue with vendors,
live entertainment and motorcycle displays. The group also plans to have
activities throughout the weekend at the fairgrounds with live entertainment and
motorcycle games and events. The airport, if possible, will be utilized for
motorcycle and car races. The details of that have yet to be finalized.
Combat Vet Riders member Stan Woods said the goal is to establish a smaller
version of the Sturgis motorcycle rally, reminiscent of the early years of
Sturgis before it became a highly commercialized event.
Woods and the other representatives of the club stressed that the Combat Vet
Riders are not an outlaw motorcycle club. They also told community leaders that
the Ritzville Rendevouz will serve as a fund-raising opportunity for their
organization to support their efforts to assist military veterans.
Woods also said he hopes the presence of the new event will benefit Ritzville
and that the Combat Vet Riders will be able to provide support of local
charities as well.
AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships part of major week of motorcycling July 12-14
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist
Association (AMA) is pleased to announce that the 2010 AMA Racing Road
Race Grand Championships will take place
July 12-14, as
part of a weeklong motorcycle racing extravaganza at the Mid-Ohio Sports
Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The annual amateur championship
roadracing event will immediately follow the AMA Racing Vintage Grand
Championships and precede the AMA Pro Racing Honda Super Cycle Weekend,
presented by Dunlop Tire.
"In 2009, we made a number of changes to the program at the AMA Racing
Road Race Grand Championships, and it was reflected in the attendance,
flow of the schedule and satisfaction of the racers," said AMA Director
of Racing Joe Bromley. "In 2010, we are going to maintain that momentum,
expand our partnership agreements and deliver an even better competition
experience to roadracers."
AMA racers at the AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships vie for
amateur national championships and the AMA Racing national No. 1 plates
that go with them. Competitors also get to compete against some of the
best amateur racers in the country on one of America's finest roadrace
courses.
This year, the AMA is teaming with WERA as its operational partner for
the event. In addition to AMA national recognition, AMA racers also will
battle for WERA championship points in select classes, which will be
detailed soon.
"WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is honored to work with AMA again in the
organizing of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days and the AMA Road Race Grand
Championships for 2010," said WERA's Evelyne Clarke. "It has always been
WERA's goal to further the sport of motorcycle roadracing, and
participating in partnerships with AMA shows that the sport is strong
and growing. We would like to educate more folks and show them that this
is one of the most exciting types of racing out there."
Bromley added: "WERA is one of the country's leading amateur roadracing
organizations, and they have considerable experience at the Mid-Ohio
Sports Car Course. As our operational partner for the amateur vintage
roadracing program that's part of the AMA Racing Vintage Grand
Championships, it only made sense to work with WERA on the AMA Racing
Road Race Grand Championships as well. Championship Cup Series (CCS) did
an exceptional job at the last two amateur roadrace championships, and
we certainly intend to work with them as well in the planning and growth
of this event in the future."
Event supplemental rules and class structure will be available soon at
AMARacing.com.
The AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships are the country's premier
amateur roadracing event, awarding AMA Racing national championships in
a number of roadracing classes for both expert- and novice-ranked
riders. Not only do riders get ample track time and an opportunity to
race against the country's fastest amateur racers, but the best compete
for the AMA Roadracing Horizon Award, which goes to the rider showing
the most promise for success in the professional ranks.
Past winners of the AMA Roadracing Horizon Award have included Miles
Thornton, Jason DiSalvo, Ben Spies and Blake Young. Other awards at the
event include the AMA Racing Top Novice Award, the AMA Racing Youth
Award -- presented to an outstanding racer under the age of 16 -- and
the AMA Racing Vet/Senior Award, presented to a standout rider who's 30
years old or older.
The AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which include vintage and
post-vintage racing in motocross, hare scrambles, dirt track, trials and
roadracing, are part of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, the country's
premier vintage motorcycling destination. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days
features North America's largest vintage motorcycle swap meet,
motorcycling seminars, bike shows, demo rides of new models.
About the American Motorcyclist Association
Since 1924, the AMA has protected the future of motorcycling and
promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of
life, and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the
same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest
motorcycling rights organization, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists'
interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the
committees of international governing organizations, and the court of
public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA
sanctions more motorsports competition and motorcycle recreational
events than any other organization in the world. AMA members receive
money-saving discounts from dozens of well-known suppliers of motorcycle
services, gear and apparel, bike rental, transport, hotel stays and
more. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the
heritage of motorcycling for future generations.

Bring On The Bikes - KOMU-TV -
COLUMBIA - While most people aren't thinking about motorcycles during December,
the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau is thinking how the bikes could help
the city come August.
Columbia will host two motorcycle rallies next August, neither of which has come
to town before.
"August 2010 will be a motorcycle month for Columbia," Convention and Visitors
Bureau executive director Lorah Steiner said.
The 33rd annual National Bikers Roundup will take over the Boone County
Fairgrounds Aug. 1-8.
While the Show-Me State Games used to be held during that time, they have been
moved up a week. The games will now end in July.
"(The Roundup) is actually held in Kansas City every 10 years, but when we went
to Atlanta (for last year's Roundup,) they chose Columbia, which is really
flattering to us and to the Boone County Fairgrounds," Steiner said. "It's going
to be an enormous tent city."
More than 30,000 people showed up to last year's Roundup in Atlanta, and
organizers expect a similar-sized crowd for the Columbia rally.
The event was originally established for black motorcyclists and, still today,
many of its participants are black.
Organizers aim to make the Roundup "family-friendly." The carnival set up for
the Boone County Fair will continue to operate for children attending the
Roundup, and Mid-America Harley Davidson has donated a 1200 Sportster motorcycle
for a raffle.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau is working to get the fairgrounds ready for
the event, hoping to repair potholes in the road that runs through the site.
Roundup organizers will also hire a private security company out of St. Louis to
help local law enforcement agencies control traffic and maintain crowds at the
fairgrounds.
"I think whenever you say 'motorcycles,' people get a little leery of that kind
of event, but this group has a 32-year history with an absolutely stellar record
of safety and security," Steiner said.
Columbia will see an additional 5,000 Harley riders when the Missouri State
H.O.G. Rally comes to the city August
27-29.
"We'll be hosting a dealership party here the first night, and then we'll also
be involved with different rides and runs and activities that will go on during
the entire length of the rally," Mid-America Harley Davidson owner Steve
Tuchschmidt said.
The city expects both the Roundup and the H.O.G. Rally to bring a lot business
to local stores and hotels.
"The average expenditure for a motorcycle event like this is $400-500 per
person, per day," Steiner said. "We're putting together a booklet that we hope
will be available at welcome centers around the state, because they'll be coming
in from around the state. This is a great tourism boom for Missouri."
Motorcycle enthusiasts are excited for the attention it will bring to their
hobby.
"You've got the Roundup starting in August. You've got all the traffic going to
Sturgis, S.D., around that time as well. And then the State H.O.G. Rally ending
the month, so it's going to create a lot of awareness about the sport of
motorcycling," Tuchschmidt said.

a motorcycle run will be held that will benefit the Defense Veterans Brain
Injury Center.

“Last year, the commanders from the Richland American Legion decided to do this

said Meichelle “Mitch” Bruce, road captain for the American Legion Riders.
Last year there were more than 1,000 people who attended the fundraiser and they

said, who will be leading the run.
Registration for the mystery poker run is from 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 at the
Solomon Run Firemen’s Club.
“We will end up at the party, which is from 5 to 11 p.m.,” said Bruce.
